HCB Group Recruits Protection Claims Expert
HCB Group is delighted to have recruited Debbie Thompson as Head of Technical Services, effective 1st January 2020.
Debbie has 25 years experience in the insurance industry in underwriting and claims management, having worked in Direct Offices, Global Re-Insurance as well as Third Party Administration organisations, and across the full suite of protection products. Her experience has enabled her to work in both the UK and Australian markets.
Debbie’s focus has primarily been in Income Protection. Her passion is rehabilitation where she strongly believes in the benefits of early claimant and company engagement which provides key information and defines a clear strategy for sustainable outcomes. She was one of the pioneers of Early Intervention and rehabilitation in the 1980’s, working with HCB as a client where she witnessed and reported an improved claims experience and claim outcome.
Debbie comments “There has been a clear wind change across the market now as insurers and importantly, the Broking and EBC communities have finally recognized this type of added value service and I am excited to take on this role with HCB Group, who are the market leaders in this area.”
Debbie’s key focus in her new role will be the oversight and development of HCB’s technical services and this will include self-insured income protection, assessments of applications for ill health early retirement, contract claims assessors and claims portfolio analyses.

Outside of HCB Debbie enjoys socializing, keeping fit and is a keen rower.
