Harwell Innovation Centre

Harwell Innovation Centre, on the Harwell Oxford Campus near Didcot, opened in 2000 with support from the UK Atomic Energy Authority. The site has a long history of scientific innovation and entrepreneurship stretching back to its foundation as an airbase during World War II, when it was the test site for several military innovations. Under the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the site became the centre of the civil nuclear program, with over 6,000 people working there in the late 1950s.

Today, the campus has been rebranded as Harwell Oxford and is being developed by a joint venture between the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Prorsus Ltd and Development Securities Plc . Harwell Campus is a world leading hub for science, technology and business, boasting the Diamond Light Source, the largest UK-funded scientific facility to be built for over 40 years. In this innovation ecosystem, established academics and entrepreneurial start-ups, big science and big business all work side by side, supported by world class scientific facilities.

Harwell Innovation Centre plays a key role in the innovation network in Oxfordshire. The Centre has developed the business facilities and commercial infrastructure to support over 60 companies, from single entrepreneurs to established businesses. The environment at both Harwell Innovation Centre and Harwell Oxford provides a supportive community where networking and collaboration facilitate access to technology, support services and potential customers
